Abilities Without Boundaries (AWB) believe that people living with intellectual and developmental disabilities can lead a more productive and fulfilling life when supported. Through AWB’s group and individual supported employment program, adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities get the opportunity to earn wages. AWB’s employment partnership program helps to connect adults with disabilities with local businesses which fosters workplace diversity and direct contribution to the community.
AWB offers competitive employment to individuals capable of doing work alone. There are job coaches who provide training to empower these individuals enrolled in the program so that they can eventually work on their own. These job coaches maintain contact and follow-up services and provides training for any new responsibilities added to the job while they are working.
Through its group supported employment program, AWB partners with employers who employ a group of persons with disabilities. It ensures that each partnering employer provides an accommodating work environment where these individuals gain hands-on work experience. AWB supplies each group employment or enclave, with an on-site job coach who provides supervisory support and assistance as the job demands. Some of AWB’s enclaves participate in group employment at the AWB facilities to prepare for community placement.
