Situated in the heart of East Harlem, Contento welcomes you to our home where we showcase our roots and who we are; respect what is around us; and where you are provided with all the essentials to be restored.
A vibrant neighborhood restaurant located in East Harlem serving fun, thoughtful and eclectic food and beverage. Chef and Peruvian native Oscar Lorenzzi heads the kitchen, and sommeliers and social advocates Yannick Benjamin and Mara Rudzinski head the hospitality and social outreach programming. With deep ties within the disability community in Harlem and beyond, Contento will use its resources and space for programming focused on social sustainability. Contento’s philosophy is simple, leave the doors open behind so you won’t be the last one in.
This restaurant was designed both by and for people with disabilities. Half the bar is low enough so that people in wheelchairs can come right up and order a drink, without the awkwardness of the bartender or the rest of their party having to look down at them. The space between tables is wide enough to let wheelchairs pass through; there’s a QR code on the menu that people with visual impairments can scan with their phones to have the menu read out loud to them; the bathroom is on the same floor as the restaurant instead of down a flight of stairs, and more.
