Guide Dogs of America seeks to transform lives by breeding, raising, and training guide dogs for individuals who are visually impaired and service dogs for veterans and children with autism at no cost to the recipients.
It also places facility dogs with professionals in hospitals, schools, and courtrooms.
These highly trained canines help clients travel safely from one destination to the next, avoid obstacles, stop at changes in elevation and for all oncoming traffic, as well as remembering common routes.
Service dogs for children with autism help them gain confidence and independence. The dogs assist with daily living activities.
The dogs are task trained to respond to PTSD-related triggers, and can also carry or retrieve objects, provide balance assistance for veterans with mobility limitations, and can remind them to take their medications.
