Comprehensive Neuropsychological Evaluations

(Approximately 8 hours of face to face testing time)

A neuropsychological evaluation is an assessment of how one’s brain is functioning in comparison to peers of a similar age (and similar education when available). The evaluation assesses a wide range of areas including intellectual functioning, memory, learning, language, visual spatial skills, executive functioning, attention and concentration, and social and emotional functioning. Comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations are typically performed after there has been some change in cognitive functioning which may or may not be due to an identifiable event such as illness or injury (particularly a head injury) or if there are neurodevelopmental concerns.

Learning Disability Evaluations

(Approximately 4-8 hours of testing time depending on history and prior testing)

A learning disability evaluation involves the main components of a neuropsychological evaluation with emphasis on assessing a child’s/adolescent’s academic achievement skills in the areas of reading, writing and mathematics to determine whether or not a learning disability is present.

Brief Neuropsychological Evaluations

(Approximately 4 hours of face to face testing time depending on the specific referral question)

A brief evaluation may be appropriate when a child has been previously tested, was recently tested by their school district, or when there is a specific referral question such as “Does my child have ADHD?” or “Is my child on the autism spectrum?” Dr. Hoffmann will be happy to discuss the pros and cons of a brief evaluation as opposed to a comprehensive evaluation and help you decide which option is best for you and your child or loved one.
