Early intervention services are for children from birth to 3 years old who either have disability diagnosis or present a delay in one or more of the following areas of development: physical, cognitive, communication, social-emotional, and/or adaptive. The qualification criteria usually is for 33% delay in one functional area or a 25% delay in each of two areas. To determine actual criteria, the parent must speak with their developmental pediatrician for a referral to the Early Intervention Program or contact the Early Intervention office in their county.
